December Newsletter
Dear Friends,Several years ago, I moved away from making New Year’s resolutions and instead began choosing a word to guide my focus for the year. As we approach 2025, I am leaving behind “grit” and embracing the word “compass.”A compass is more than just an object; it carries a rich symbolic history and stems from the Latin words “com” (together) and “passus” (pace or step), meaning “step together” or “journey together.” This word feels especially fitting as ESNKY embarks on creating a new three-year strategic plan. This will be a time of discovery, goal-setting, and mapping out action steps to ensure our continued growth and service.Just like a compass, we aim to honor where we’ve come from while keeping our sights on the future, ensuring that we do the right things for our guests, staff, supporters and community—together. When you receive the strategic planning survey from our consultant in January, please take a few moments to answer the questions and share your insights. Your feedback will help us set goals and create action steps to enhance ESNKY.I’d love to hear the word you’ve chosen for the year! Drop me an email and let me know what inspires you.Wishing you a happy and healthy new year,
Kim M. Webb

Making Spirits Bright
Bobby, an older adult who was struggling with homelessness, proudly shows off the keys to his new apartment after leaving our Emergency Shelter program.Help the next “Bobby” have a bed to sleep in when they need it most by clicking here. A donation of $50 will cover the cost of one guest for one night in our crisis, drop-in shelter, keeping them warm, safe and loved during the coldest time of the year.

The Holidays at ESNKY
The holiday spirit is in full swing at ESNKY! Santa visited guests of ESNKY on Sunday, giving out presents and making spirits bright! Staff celebrated the holidays with a White Elephant gift exchange, the "Price is Right" with canned proteins, and of course, the shelter tradition of "Left, Right, Center.” Harry McJingle, the ESNKY Shelter Elf, has been playing hide and seek with our staff. From our family to yours, we wish you a merry and bright holiday season!
Can you provide a holiday meal for our guests? We have some upcoming openings due to illness and travel. Click below to see if any dates work for you!
New Website Launches
ESNKY is thrilled to announce the launch of our new website: EmergencyShelterNKY.org. This new site features blog posts, programs and services information, volunteer opportunities and ways to give. We are so grateful for ESNKY volunteer Brandon Migliorisi, who donated his time to build the site infrastructure.
Did You Know?
We recently had a 27-year-old guest re-enlist in the army after staying with us. His story is one of resilience and service: He ended his first enlistment to care for an aging family member, planning to find work to help support them financially. Sadly, the family member passed away unexpectedly, leaving him homeless. After some time in ESNKY's overnight shelter and our Work Program, he finalized the estate and made the life-changing decision to re-enlist and continue serving our country. His journey is a powerful reminder of the strength and determination of those we serve—and the importance of supporting them as they find their way forward. After all, this is what we do best, always giving our guests a voice and a choice.
