Dear friends,

As the nights grow longer and colder, many adults in our community are faced with a harsh reality: winter is not just a season - it’s a matter of survival. With housing costs surging and a lack of income-aligned housing, many of our neighbors are finding themselves homeless for the first time. Our welcoming environment meets our guests wherever they are coming from - a tent, their car, an abandoned building, jail, a foreclosed home, recovery housing, a relationship crisis, or loss of income that prevents someone from living in our community.

At the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY), we believe that no one should endure these bitter nights and days alone or afraid. This season, we are calling on you to join us in "Making Spirits Bright" by making sure our guests are warm, safe, fed, and loved. We are working as hard as ever to provide Life Saving, Life Changing shelter, services, and compassionate support that our guests need - not just to survive the winter, but to inspire hope for the future.

Meet Paul - a recent guest at ESNKY. As a senior citizen who has been struggling with homelessness for a long time, he first entered our Emergency Shelter program, and with the help of staff, was ready to address his substance use disorder. After finishing that program, he still needed a place to call home for a short period of time. When Paul returned to ESNKY, he worked diligently with our staff to apply for housing, and eventually secured an apartment in a community that specializes in senior citizens. While he waited to move in, he accessed overnight services including a safe place to sleep, self-service laundry, showers, and the ESNKY Healthcare Clinic.

Now, you can help make spirits bright for more guests like Paul. We’re asking for your support this winter, because our 24/7 services are critical to keeping people alive. Just like everyone else, our costs have gone up. Your gift stays local and makes a direct, Life Saving impact:• $50 provides one night of warm shelter for a guest, including 2 meals, shower, laundry, a change of clothes, and more holistic services. Commit to a monthly gift to donate one night of shelter every month of 2025.• $350 will make sure that a guest in our Housing Work Program, or new short-term shelter program, RISE, has a bed to sleep in for a week as they work towards stability and self-sufficiency.• $3,400 keeps our overnight shelter running through one of the harshest winter nights, supporting all 68 guests who have found dignity and respect within our walls.Make your gift before the New Year to ensure ESNKY has the resources we need during the coldest parts of winter. Together, we can make this season one of compassion, dignity, and respect for everyone in our community. Help us make spirits bright this winter - your support saves lives. Wishing you and your family a merry & bright holiday seasonWith grace and gratitude,
