Local Church Serves Up Summer Cookout at ESNKY

Grilled burgers and hot dogs were on the menu at the first cookout of the summer at the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky. Members of First Church of Christ, with campuses in Burlington, Campbell County, and Union, served nearly 70 guests at an early Independence Day cookout on July 2. The group of volunteers were led by Amy and Steve Martini, who are from the Burlington campus of First Church of Christ.

Volunteers grilled 120 burgers and 80 hotdogs, made festive desserts, and decorated the dining area for the holiday. 

First Church of Christ provides meals three times a month to guests at ESNKY as a part of the First Church of Christ Homeless Ministry. 

The cookout was also made possible by a grant from the Durr Foundation to purchase two grills, propane and other supplies to make summer cookouts like this one possible. 

ESNKY is so grateful for meal volunteers like the Martinis and First Church of Christ, who provide meals, play music, bring an upbeat attitude, and go above and beyond to promote a welcoming environment in shelter. ESNKY also thanks the Durr Foundation for providing new grills for volunteers of ESNKY to cook up delicious meals for our guests all summer long.
