National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
November 17-23, 2024
National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week is an annual program where people come together across the country to draw attention to the problems of hunger & homelessness. Here in Northern Kentucky, we are asking our friends, leaders, and community members to help raise awareness and support for our neighbors struggling with homelessness and hunger, many for the first time this winter.
Did you know in Fiscal Year 2024, 46% of all of ESNKY’s guests self-reported being homeless for the very first time, and 12% were over the age of 55 (July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024)? ESNKY provides navigation services to help guests obtain government documents such as IDs and birth certificates and begin their journey towards housing.

Did you know that at ESNKY, the fastest growing population among our guests is adults age 55 and over? According to alarming projections from the National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH), the number of older adults experiencing homelessness is anticipated to nearly triple by the year 2030. ESNKY’s handicap-accessible facilities and increased programmatic focus on vulnerable adults provides these guests the holistic services they need to succeed.

Last year, that jumped to 749 adults (a 64% increase) and 5,501 services. This vital program isn’t just for those without shelter—it’s also helping individuals stay housed by providing essential hygiene services that support dignity and stability. Everyone deserves the respect that comes with a hot shower and clean clothes.
