A Safe, Warm Place: ESNKY’s 19th Winter Shelter Season
Oct 26, 2026
When temperatures fall, a safe place to sleep can mean the difference between life and death. From November 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027, the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky will open its doors for its 19th Winter Shelter season, providing a warm, welcoming place for adults who need shelter during the coldest months.
ESNKY is Northern Kentucky’s only immediate-entrance, low-barrier cold-weather shelter for men and women ages 18 and older. The Winter Cold Shelter program offers overnight shelter and wraparound services on a night-by-night basis, allowing adults to seek help whenever they need it most.
Along with a safe environment to sleep, Winter Cold Shelter guests receive two meals each day—a hot nutritious evening meal and a cold breakfast—as well as access to showers, self-service laundry, and clothing. Computer workstations, cell phone charging stations, and free Wi-Fi help guests stay connected. A secure courtyard, an onsite healthcare clinic, and referrals to supportive community partners round out the services available.
As the 19th season begins, the focus remains on meeting an immediate need: a safe, welcoming environment for adults facing a winter night without shelter. At the heart of the night-by-night crisis sheltering model is a commitment to giving guests a voice and a choice. Adults can access services without committing to programming.
Last winter, ESNKY and its generous community of supporters helped provide 494 adults with 8,590 nights of safe, warm, and life-changing shelter. Those numbers reflect thousands of nights when adults had a place to come in from the cold, rest, and access essential services.
