Position: Development Manager
Reports to: Executive Director
Employment Status: Exempt Full-Time position
The Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY) provides immediate Life Saving, Life Changing shelter and services to adults experiencing homelessness in our community. We believe homelessness is an emergency and that shelter is a basic necessity for human beings. We believe that only when this basic necessity is provided, do human beings have the ability to recover from homelessness. We believe that our ability to always answer the call or the door will give adults the shelter services and support they need, even for just one night.
Position Overview: This position is responsible for developing and implementing a plan to diversify operating revenue by raising new dollars annually to fund operational costs of ESNKY using a community-centric lens that is based on our core values of compassion, respect, and dignity. The DM is responsible for the day-to-day management, oversight, execution, and growth of fund development/fundraising for ESNKY.
Job Description
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and retain donors, and sponsors to achieve ESNKY’s total fundraising goals thru appeals, online giving, social media, and special events.
- Implement, support, and track annual fundraising campaigns. This includes written appeals, annual Homeless to Hopeful event, and events hosted by outside partners.
- Research, prepare, write, and submit foundation grants, corporate requests, and help with federal grants as needed.
- Prepare and submit reports to funders including corporate and individual donors.
- Promote Board giving including board communication, implementing and coordinating fundraising activities, mail solicitations, and donor outreach.
- Attend, assist and represent ESNKY at various key fundraising events/functions, speaking engagements, tours, and other programs.
- Build and implement stewardship plans for new, monthly, and long-time donors.
- Chair the Help Us Home Continuation Committee to ensure donors are completing their pledges over the next 5 years. Provide monthly reporting to Finance Committee and consultant.
- Grow a major gift and planned giving program including managing relationships with all regular major donors ($2,500 or more per year) and identification, cultivation, and solicitation of new major donors.
- Use shared CRM system for planning, tracking donor interactions, grant management, and maintain fundraising calendar.
- Collaborate with ESNKY staff, attend required ESNKY meetings and support Board committees as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience, non-profit experience a plus.
- Two or more years of successful fundraising experience with a proven ability to plan and execute special events.
- Effective project, presentation, public speaking, and people management skills
- Excellent multi-tasking, strategic planning, and time management skills
- A proven ability to set goals, lead teams and help others reach their goals
- Understand that this is an external-facing role and will be expected to be in the community, networking and building relationships at least 40-50% of the time.
- Be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed for special events and community engagement.
Skills & Abilities
- Possess excellent organizational and analytical skills and can meet tight deadlines
- Experienced grant writer with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Have experience identifying, securing, and sustaining 5-6 figure gifts.
- Ability to exercise discretion and make independent decisions that align with organization’s vision, direction, and strategic plan.
- Experience with Little Green Light software or related CRM donation management systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $60,000 – $70,000 per year. Benefits will include paid time off for vacation and illness, $3,000 health & wellness stipend, cell phone reimbursement, company laptop, keyboard and others as negotiated. This position is hybrid with the ability to work remotely and in the office as needed. Preference is given to individuals who present qualifications beyond the minimum.
