We are hiring a Program Supervisor to join our staff! This is an exciting time for us as we are building a new 68 bed facility and a Daytime Navigation & Engagement Center that will be open later this fall.  This position is a dynamic position supervising staff and coordinating shelter programs and services. We are an immediate, low barrier shelter for adults, providing dignity & compassion when they are in crisis. Position:  Program Supervisor 

Reports to: Operations Manager

Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY) provides life saving, life changing shelter to adults experiencing homelessness in our community.

Position Overview: The Program Supervisor is responsible for direct supervision of shelter advocates and coordination of shelter programs and services. This includes, but is not limited to, modeling effective leadership skills to shelter advocates, researching community resources, connecting shelter guests to other supports, staff scheduling, staff/volunteer supervision, and other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Executive Director. The individual must be adept at problem solving, researching community resources, have a knowledge of trauma informed care, demonstrate empathy, and compassion, and maintain flexibility in working hours to have a presence during non-traditional shifts.

Details

  • Provide direct supervision to Shelter Advocates include orientation, trainings, and coaching to develop a strong and skilled team to meet the needs of our guests.
  • Conduct all hiring, promotions, evaluations, and disciplinary action for Shelter Advocates in collaboration with Operations Manager. Provide input for bonuses and recognition awards
  • Responsible for all aspects of scheduling of advocates, including managing time off requests, absences and ensure full coverage of shelter advocates shifts.
  • Oversee, direct, coordinate and evaluate all day-to-day functions of the emergency shelter and housing work programs and use discretion and judgement that is in line with mission.
  • Assess guest’s needs, situations, strengths, and support networks to determine their goals and develop mutually agreed upon plans to improve their well-being and increase self-sufficiency and housing opportunities.
  • Coordinate referrals for guests to other agencies and resources and advocate directly with other agencies as needed to help guest’s access necessary services. Maintain service partnerships with referral agencies.
  • Authority to act and use judgement that is in line with our mission while providing supervision of daily operations of the shelter, including cleanliness, safety, and the security of the facility, as well as adherence to ESNKY policies and procedures.
  • Provide clinical/administrative supervision to other staff as needed when Operations Manager is not available.
  • Ensure that ESNKY goals, deadlines and performance standards are met.
  • Assist with the collection, completion, and accuracy of client documentation for shelter programs.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of HMIS and ESNKY data reporting processes and train advocates as needed.
  • Generate reports and documentation as directed by the Operations Manager or Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience working with vulnerable people required; BSW or human services degree preferred.
  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience in managing a team of 10.
  • Minimum one year working with the homeless/low-income population.
  • Must have own vehicle and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record approved by ESNKY insurer.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, problem solving and de-escalation techniques.
  • Prior experience working with the substance abuse, mental health, housing and/or the criminal justice system is preferred.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication, organizational, and computer literacy skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel or other related data tracking software.
  • Active listening and critical thinking skills
  • Models and nurtures a trauma-informed care approach in all interactions with staff and participants; mentors’ staff to develop and strengthen their knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to set boundaries and implement programming.
  • Experienced use of the Kentucky Human Management Information System (KHMIS) or other homeless data systems is a plus.

  • The position typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.

Salary and Benefits:  This is a full-time position with an annual salary of 40,000/year; benefits will include cell phone reimbursement, paid time off for holidays, vacation, and illness. Preference will be given to individuals who present qualifications beyond the minimum.
