New Operations Manager
COVINGTON, KY – Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY) is pleased to announce that Brian Sergent has joined the ESNKY team as Operations Manager. Sergent assumed his new position in December of 2020.
Before coming to ESNKY, Sergent worked as the Quality Assurance Manager and Compliance Officer at LADD, Inc. (Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled) in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sergent brings extensive employee development experience to his position at ESNKY.
Sergent graduated from Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH, in 1999 with a degree in psychology, and in 2004, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Northern Kentucky University. These degrees have served to broaden his understanding of the circumstances of others giving him the compassion needed to help get them back on their feet with dignity and respect.
Sergent is a welcome addition to the ESNKY team bringing his ability to coordinate with different organizations when he helped them become accredited with CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). He honed these skills when he worked as the Director of Workforce Success at Redwood, a nonprofit organization in Ft. Mitchell, KY, serving children and adults with severe and multiple disabilities.
Brian has many years as a Director in homeless services and he served as the Northern Kentucky Regional Representative on the Kentucky Interagency Council on the Homelessness, Services Sub Committee. He also served as the NKY SOAR Outreach Lead and partnered with the KY Department for Behavioral Health, Departmental and Intellectual.
Through these positions, he led by example and brought attention to the community on how important it is to end homelessness.
“I am thrilled to have someone with not only extensive nonprofit experience but also in the field of homelessness,” said ESNKY Executive Director Kim Webb. “His energy influences the staff inspiring them to do their best every day.”
Like many of the men and women seeking shelter and services at ESNKY, Sergent is a veteran having served in the Army Nation Guard before receiving an Honorable Discharge. He also has substance abuse intervention and referral to treatment training, which is vital to ESNKY as the only shelter in the area to accept guests who are struggling with addiction.
About the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky
Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky was established in 2008 as the region’s only cold-weather shelter for adults. Since that time, countless men and women from all over the region have sought refuge at ESNKY. In the summer of 2010, ESNKY also began providing shelter during the warmer months for men who are working towards achieving housing, income, and improvement of health. Originally created by a group of concerned citizens and business owners with an altruistic spirit, ESNKY continues to operate with a clear vision and a compelling mission. Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky believes that shelter is a basic human necessity and only when this necessity is provided do people have the ability to recover from homelessness.
